Atlantic Jubilee Program in Spiritual Deepening and Spiritual Guidance

New Cycle of Program will begin in June 2013 - 2015: Enquirer's Packet

Jubilee LogoThis is a intensive home-based program for people of diverse spiritual backgrounds who seek to follow a contemplative way of life and for those who wish to discern more clearly the gift and practice of spiritual guidance with others. The program has emerged out of a renewed appreciation for the Christian Contemplative Tradition as well as the learning of practices and teachings related to other spiritual traditions.

The full program (Track I: Spiritual Deepening and Track II: Spiritual Guidance) covers 28 months of reading, spiritual practice, individual retreats, group work, and papers, as well as three residences (7-8 days each) at the Centre. Participants may register for the first track of the program, that of Spiritual Deepening, which takes place during the first 14 months, or may indicate an interest in the full program.

Purpose and Focus

This is an intensive, ecumenical, home based program in spiritual guidance and spiritual deepening. It is for those who wish to discern more clearly the gift of and practice of spiritual guidance and to deepen their own contemplative presence with God in daily life.

"Spirituality consists of an experienced and interpreted relationship among human beings and the mystery of creation."
Gerald May, Will and Spirit - Spiritual Guidance

Spiritual guidance and direction is the art of assisting another person notice and respond to the presence and leading of God, ("God" by any other name: creator, great spirit, father/mother, higher power, inner light, holy spirit, inner teacher, the holy, etc.), in the middle of ordinary life. It is an ancient tradition taking on current form with the assistance of twenty-first century knowledge, skills, and language.

"The ministry of spiritual direction is about to explode globally, like a big bang. We are witnessing the ministry of spiritual direction as it is passed from generation to generation, from a tradition of a small priestly class to a broader ministry of women and men who are responding to God's call to help people tell their sacred stories every day."
Fr. Padraig Leonard, Brazil
